Well, 25 years ago you never would have guessed that he and I would be great friends, he was once my biggest rival!! I am referring to my little brother Aubrey (not so little anymore, but with all of his grey hair I am weary of calling him my younger brother, lol). Man did we used to battle!! Like violent, knock down, kick and punch and pull out the weapons, agonizingly painful fights. I remember my Dad once telling Aub that one day he would be bigger than me and I would stop picking on him... and sure enough, we (I) outgrew it. I love all of my brothers and sisters and it was never that I loved him any less, more like he was more of a threat to me and the role I had carved out for myself in the family. Luckily for us, we are able to get great laughs walking down memory lane. Our partners have heard the stories and they still stick around too!!
Aubrey and I are definitely closer as adults than we ever were as children. I have come to terms that he too can be the family hero and it does not take a thing away from ME! Recently Aubrey's girlfriend moved in with him and we have as a result talked a little less (can happen, I understand!), we do get together with our families and I pop into see him at work now and then too, but the phone calls have dwindled some and I was just beginning to realize it and miss him a little. Today, before he had to head into work, he gave me a call.... an hour later, we were still laughing and telling our silly jokes and realized it was time for him to go. What a great gift it is to have brothers... they are different again than our sisters. It was time to change the music today and with Aub on the mind, the first song, is for him. (this is all of our song.... it is also for Krystal and Shawn and Carrie... with my 4evaluv)
