We have our new kitten, Scout... he is six weeks old, white with grey markings and a frisky little guy! He seems to lead with his claws, you forget how much kittens will scratch. In 2 days my hands were covered with small scratches. The name... well, I won! I picked the name, from the great work of Harper Lee... does anyone not know who Scout Finch is??
What a funny thing to watch these men in my home (of various sizes) all relate to a little kitten. They are all quite comical. Let's see...
Michael... well, he was the one who insisted on a kitten and not an older cat. He got excited when after second day, Scout decided that napping with Daddy was a must. He curls up on his chest or his shoulders and sleeps with him, I say Mike sleeps so often that it was bound to happen, the little kitty wants to have some quality time. When he comes home, he sees Colin and then asks "Where is the kitty?" Truly, a bigger suck than I am!!
Josh... Josh is not into the scratching thing and so after one scratch he will not handle the kitten. He babytalks with him though. He thinks everything can hurt him and he is trying to figure out a way to pick him up wihtout getting clawed. He keeps his distance and a watchful eye, as he thinks everything is going to hurt little Scout.
Aidan... Well, he has a new best friend, he "kittysat" him the other day when I went shopping. Aidan said if Daddy has to watch Colin, he would watch Scout. He feeds him and takes him to his litter. He plays with him as soon as he gets home from school. Aidan is most taken by our furry feline.
Colin... One could debate whether Colin is more infatuated with Scout than Aidan, the problem is Colin cannot get close enough to him. A curious baby and a frisky kitten could be a dangerous duo... we watch them closely when they are both awake, they both play hard and either one could get hurt in the process. Colin is in awe each time Scout comes near and I did take a snapshot of the two of them napping together on the couch. I think that Scout climbed on the blanket unaware that Colin was even there, so cute.
Jack ... Our 2 year old spaniel is the funniest yet! While he always tried to have a playmate in Tequila, she was too old and would shut him down, time and time again. Scout soon decided that Jack is not a threat and has been chasing and pouncing on him ever since. Jack does not know what to do with him, he backs away from him and tries to use his snarly face to scare him, but Scout is having fun. Jack is slowing simmering into a cat lover... I watch Scout try to cuddle up and Jack gets up and moves but he stays each time a little bit longer. It is so funny to watch.
Me, on the other hand, I have been training him in the litter box, keeping the peace and the distance between him and the dog and Colin. I have found Scout to be a lovable little one and I will be glad when he gets past the really pouncey phase. He jumps and attacks my feet in my sleep.... which reminds me how brutal it was to have Tequila in bed with me as a kitten. I had forgotten. I find it most adorable to watch him run with his fat little bottom. Kittens are so cute and I suppose to have one from very young will teach my boys something worthwhile. They are already attached.
