boys on skates

We have been talking with my brother and his little guy for so long about getting out skating together and yesterday we bit the bullet! Aubrey,Leandra and Zachary along with Josh, Aidan and myself went out for an open skate. What a hoot.
Josh, of course is a strong skater (and a little show off, I might add). Aub has been on skates for almost 30 years and so does not too bad himself. Leandra had not skated in 2 years but she does okay too.
Me, I have not been on skates since Josh was 3 years old. Even then, it was only two times and before that I was in grade school. I did not fall!! That was a miracle bestowed upon me for some good I must have done. Hehee, I was just a little unsteady, the main problem being my inability to stop. Oh, and did I mention the bratty 13 year old,(that I laboured 84 hours with)who checked me into the boards... just for kicks. hahaa!! It was a light check but the aftermath could have been disastrous. I need to get out more often because my feet were aching in spots they never had before, I thought amputation may have been a better alternative for a few minutes there.
Zak and Aidan..... they did well!! Zak had only been out once before, years ago and he is just that right amount of fearless that he could manage to do the "walk on skates" thing by the end of the hour. He will be flying in no time, I am sure. Aidan, well, he did one lap during the hour. Hehee.... he is kind of like the baby bird that refuses to get kicked out of the nest, so funny. While my feet hurt, Aidan says his hands hurt.... not from his couple of falls but from clenching into the boards for the entire time. Aub taught him how to get up from a fall, and Josh scooped him away for a short trip in his arms but the majority of the time he was clinging and walking around the circumference of the rink. I wish I had my camera. It was his very first time out, so I was very proud of him... no tears and only one time off the ice to have a short rest on the bench. We reminded him that everyone has a first time doing something, and that if he could have seen his brother when he first skated... (well, he would understand why it was another 6 years before he would do it again) Homework for Aidan.... walk around in his skates at home.... until next time!!
You may notice, the absence of Michael..... yes, he decided that someone needed to stay home with Colin, so as an ultimate sacrifice, he would do it. Can you say chicken? That be him.
