Be who you are and say what you feel because those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter.~ Dr. Seuss... a very wise dude

This book rocks my mismatched socks!!
So I had a wonderful chance to connect with a colleague... who brought me support of a much more personal nature today. I felt so good... so validated and just so heard. (Thanks again Lacey!!) She let me unload, she shared some strategies and she brought me books to share with my family. The most coveted of all... which I finally got to purchase from her agency... the self help book "I'm Not Sick. I Don't Need Help." written by the good Dr. Xavier Amador. (who shall from hereforth be referred by my petname for him "The LEAP dude". This book is written for family members who have loved ones who are mentally ill and treatment resistant. (Well isn't that just my big story in a nutshell) I have had the privilege of receiving training to his approach (Listen Empathize Agree and Partner)... although I do look forward to the day when Dr. Amador... I mean LEAP dude is back this way to go to receive the training by him. I am so down with this method! It is everything I know I am supposed to be employing and yet find difficult to begin using. I catch myself time and time again being sucked into saying and doing the wrong thing to support my loveee... and neither of us come out at all the better for it. I want to help. I want to support and be effective. I do not want to make things worse. I read 3 chapters on the bus ride home... and just hope that my new friend the LEAP dude knows... he has given this girl a little lift when the week has been so low.
