Thanks once again for lessons from the little ones in my life!!
Mommy, Daddy and Colin get settled in to their spots at the park last night... ready to watch Aidan's ball game. We are out on the grass field this week which means we have to sit on the ground. So we find the perfect spot and just as Daddy sits down beside Mommy... we are firmly told by our 5 year old, "Now, you two... No arguing tonight. We are here to watch baseball."
Well, what can we say to that! Not a damn thing. We nod and agree that we are going to have a good night.
In a perfect world, a little kid would never have to tell his parents to get along. And for the record, we did not need to be told yesterday. But in the midst of our ups and downs in this rough time... emotions are often high and our filters are set to low... and I will humbly admit... that five year old has heard more arguing than he deserved to hear. Disappointing but true.
It is not a perfect world... but in my family it is a world where everyone has a voice... where members big and small have rights... and I am 110% proud that our Colin knows how to assert his! If I listened to what he was not saying... I could guess that he was asking for his parents to work together at creating safety for him... to show him he was okay by us being okay with each other... and on that note, a wonderful night of family was had.

I have had a few of those reminders from kiddies this month too.. sometimes our children have a way of shaking our trees when needed and letting the apples fall where they may. I am glad you decided to make apple pie together and create a nice evening for yourselves and especially for Colin. xxx
